I finally found an apartment, although not as cheap as I hoped for. After the electricity bill I will pay the nice sum of $800 AUD per month (4000 NOK). On the other hand I got a nicely payed summer job, and will be able to live a fairly comfortable life in Bergen.
On the creative side... well, there really haven't been much. My computer broke down and was sent to repair. I've already waited a week and a half for it to return, so I hope it'll be back soon.
Once I get my computer back I'll start drawing more again, and upload some to this blog as well.

3ds Max - first experience and frustration
I finally got around to download the 30-day free trial of 3ds Max. The start was promising as only downloading it conjured bluescreen after bluescreen, once it was on the computer I installed it and fired it up. After watching some included tutorials (bluescreen only occuring one time) I started exploring the interface, created a box and once again my computer was overthrown by the power of bluescreen.
I'm not sure what the problem is; I know the graphic's driver crashes, but why it does so is beyond me. Maybe it is the fact that I'm running the software (32-bit) on a 64-bit OS. But I don't see why it should be such a huge problem - isn't 64-bit superior to 32? And why shouldn't 32 be compatible with a 64-bit OS? I am no computer technicimagician, so I wouldn't know if that is the problem or not, but in the meantime, I have to blame someone, aight?
On the other hand, of what I could see of 3ds Max is that it has a very user-friendly interface and seems to be fairly easy to use compared to that of Blender. The tutorials were easy to follow and explained the beginner stuff well. It'll be interesting to see if I can get it to work properly withoutmy computer crashing everytime.
Also I'm looking for an appartment in Bergen. Not easy, but I might be onto something. Hopefully I will find something nice and cheap, so that the expenses of living will be... well... livable!

Catastrophe Progress #1
Okay, There's some progress to my game project and here are some samples of what I've been doing between reading for my exams. There might be some minor changes to them in the future, but this is what I'm going to use for now anyways. Obviously everything regarding the game is copyrighted to me and is not to be used elsewhere!
This character is Gerald, the main protagonist of my project. He's a lieutenant of an elite offense team, meaning he's a member of the renown Black Blades. His just and honest nature is what drives him to cross his superiors, and his excellent leadership and strategic mind makes him a most admirable foe for anyone who dares picking a fight.
His name is Kyros, and is the step brother of Gerald. As Gerald, Kyros has earned the rank of lieutenant in the Black Blades. His serious attitude towards his job covers the fact that he is quite the comedian, although a bit short tempered.
Edmond is the Teyrian queen's personal body guard. He's heavily armed with semi-automatic grenade launchers and other weapons that will surely make some noise. Behind the brute force though is a loving father who cares for his sick daughter.

No victory - no sadness still
So I didn't win, but it doesn't really bother. I already got into a great school in Bergen (located in the west-south-west in Norway). I'm going to study there for one year before I yet again have to move, although this time I'm going to Kristiansand (unless, of course, they start up a 3D game design course in Bergen). My third year will be in England at Teeside university, but I think I have to prove my worth to get in there, so I will be doing my best to become the best!
That's all for this time, I'll try to get up some new drawings and/or 3D models!

Catastrophe in the finale!
So I entered this game design competition back in february, early march I was told that I was in the second round, which was concept art. Today (April 20th) I became a confirmed finalist. In the next few days they will announce who will be the other contestants, before they finally - next week, announce the winner. I'll keep my fingers crossed! I hope you do to!

3D before school

I decided to give this a shot: Make a low poly game character (Gerald - the main character of "Catastrophe") - I can make much better high-poly models, but I won't be posting that here, at least not for now.
The texture is bad and all that, but I didn't give it too much effort. I just wanted to see what I could create before I start studying 3D. I will get better!

Education and Catastrophe
This will be my first real submission to this blog, and it's more a filler for what is to come later when I'm back at my own computer. I will talk a little bit about my plans for future education, and what I'm currently working on.
1. Present time education
Archaeology is fun. Some people don't get how I could be both interested in archaeology and game design, let alone make the "mistake" of chosing the "wrong" type of education. I simply thought I had to put my relatively good grades from high school to some use.
2. Future education
"What do you expect from this education?" - that was one of the questions I was asked during a conversation with a student councillor from a school I most likely will attend. What I expect is of course to develop skills in 3D design and animation, as well as push my artistic ability to a more professional level. I also expect to have a lot of fun while learning as well as making new friends.
3. Current Project: "Catastrophe"
Some have already heard about this, but for you who haven't: Catastrophe is a game project under my design. I've been planning, drawing and writing for almost two years now. The game is planned to be a classic RPG, with a turn-based battle system, although there are some strategic features that will help seperate it from the huge amount of RPGs that are out on the market. I was making 2D graphics for the game, although now I think I am going to change it to 3D as I learn how to work with it in an engine. I won't be giving away much details on it here right now, but if you are interested, I will upload drawings and story elements later. Sometime there might even be a website for the project.

Welcome
This is your standard welcoming message to anyone new to my blog. First things first - I have some good friends who doesn't share my native tounge, hence the English language.
Who am I?
I am Lars Erik, or Lars if you prefer, while writing this I am studying archaeology at the Norwegian University for Science and Technology (NTNU), but that won't last, as I have plans on studying what I really want: Game design. My biggest interests are games and art (concept art, 3D, etc), that said - I also enjoy walking in mountains and forests, and working out.
What's this blog for?
I will be using this blog to show off some of my work, and also talk about what we do in my future studies, and about my own personal projects. If anything else comes up that I find interesting enough to post, or there's just something special I want to share, then it'll probably end up here.
Having said this, I welcome you all to join in and comment as I embark on my personal epic journey in search of creativity and fun as well as dealing with whatever challenges the road I have taken might bring.
